These pages have been set up by the Green Jobs and Workplaces group, which is a working group of SwanseaCAN ( Swansea Climate Action Network). This was set up as a follow up to COP26, recognising we are in a climate emergency and need to take action at a local level as well as putting pressure on the Council and Governments at Wales, UK and international levels.
Our group has 3 objectives so far
- This page is intended as a resource for green representatives in the workplace, and to be useful to anyone who would like to support better, more environmentally friendly practices at work. Although we would like people to join trade unions and would encourage you to become an accredited TUC trained rep in the workplace, we hope the resources we intend to build up on this page will be useful and available to anyone who wants ideas on greening the workplaces including the self employed, SMEs and non unionised workplaces.
- We want to identify and support ways Swansea and District can develop more environment supporting jobs and press the City and County of Swansea Council and the Welsh Government to bring more green jobs to the area, and ensure local people can access training to take up the new opportunities coming up as a result of the increase in renewable energy initiatives. We believe there are opportunities in insulating homes in the County, and through initiatives like community renewable projects. We think this brings together caring for the environment as well as helping people during these tough times with their rising energy costs.
- We want to inspire people by sharing success stories of creating jobs in green industries, transforming workplaces to using more environmentally friendly practices and sharing ideas. We hope to invite inspiring speakers, hold networking events for green reps and events such as book launches
